The Art of Community: Inside the Armonk Outdoor Art Show
Each fall, Armonk comes alive with creativity, color, and community spirit at the Armonk Outdoor Art Show. What started in 1961 with a handful of artists on the lawn of the Armonk Methodist Church has evolved into a nationally recognized show featuring 160 artists, selected from more than 650 applicants. Today, the show attracts 10,000-12,000 visitors over a single weekend and is orchestrated by a network of 300+ dedicated volunteers, all working together to support the North Castle Public Library.
At the helm is Nancy Rosner, Managing Director of the Armonk Outdoor Art Show, whose connection to the event is deeply personal. Born and raised in Armonk, Nancy has experienced the show as a child, an adult and a volunteer. She joined the selection jury before eventually stepping into her current leadership role. "I've , and fine crafts. With artwork available at all price points, there is truly something for every taste and budget. seen the show from almost every angle," she says, "and what's always stood out is how much heart it has." That heart is evident in the show's thoughtful artist selection process. A two-round jury system begins with a blind review, followed by a collaborative second round that considers the artists as a whole. Award-winning artists from the previous year are automatically invited back. While the jury intentionally seeks a wide range of media, styles and price points, visitors can expect everything from painting and photography to sculpture, mixed media, wearable art, and fine crafts.
But the Armonk Outdoor Art Show is about more than art sales. "It's really a fall festival," Nancy explains. "Come wander, eat, enjoy the art, bring the kids, spend the day, while supporting the library!" Family activities, local food vendors, and partnerships with Armonk businesses help tum the weekend into a full community celebration. Those partnerships extend throughout the year. In 2025, the show launched Armonk Has Heart, a public art initiative featuring artist-designed hearts displayed around town. The program included a kickoff event in the form of a family scavenger hunt with over 500 participants. The hearts were auctioned off and raised $17,000 for the library.
As plans take shape for 2026, the Armonk Outdoor Art Show continues to reflect the best of a community that is creative, collaborative, and deeply connected. It's a celebration of art, yes; but even more so, a celebration of Armonk itself.
The Family Activities Tent remains a favorite destination for the show’s youngest visitors, offering complimentary hands-on art projects including scavenger hunts, art-making activities, story time, and more. Guests can easily spend the day discovering art while enjoying a variety of lunch, snack, dessert, wine, beer, and cocktail offerings available throughout the event.
The Art Show is made possible by more than 300 dedicated volunteers committed to supporting the community. All net proceeds benefit the Friends of the North Castle Public Library and ultimately support the library’s branches in Armonk and North White Plains, helping fund educational programming, cultural events, and the Armonk Players theater group.
